Cookbook Review: The Slim Palate Paleo Cookbook

I'm diggin' this new cookbook.

If you're not already familiar with Joshua Weissman, you've gotta check out his food blog called Slim Palate and his new book, The Slim Palate Paleo Cookbook which just came out a few weeks ago.

Two things about this cookbook that impressed me immediately were...

  • The gorgeous photography. (Do not open this book when you're super hungry)
  • The fact that it's written by a high school senior. (I don't remember much about what it was like to be 18, but nutrition was definitely NOT at the forefront of my mind...kudos, Joshua, kudos)

But there's so much more to this cookbook beyond these two initial "wow" factors.

For starters, the book is inspired by Joshua's personal struggle with weight and his journey to achieving optimal health. In less than 2 years, he lost 100 lbs and developed a passion for cooking in the process.

The Slim Palate Paleo Cookbook really captures the essence of Joshua's love and appreciation for real food and that in itself makes his book so enjoyable to read.

The cookbook includes recipes that are appropriate for all experience levels and the ingredients used are very recognizable (and if you're not familiar with any of the ingredients, Joshua includes a glossary in the beginning of the book summarizing what they are). If you're a newbie in the kitchen, you'll find this cookbook to be very approachable and the recipes to be clear and easy to follow.

One of the recipes Joshua includes in the cookbook - Cauliflower Tortillas -  is from his blog. "I couldn't help but add it to the book because it has been so incredibly popular, pinned well over 100,000 times on Pinterest and linked to all over the Internet," he writes.

I made them last week and loved the simplicity of the recipe as well as the fact that it didn't contain cheese, as other cauliflower tortilla/crust/bread recipes I've seen tend to do.

All of the recipes that are exclusively in this cookbook look amazing and I can't wait to try them all (especially the Pulled Pork with Spicy Vinegar Sauce on page 110..whoa...)
