Great question! Here’s the deal. Pete is a classically trained chef from Le Cordon Bleu and has worked in the restaurant industry for over 15 years. He is an artist and food is his medium. Given that Pete’s Paleo puts a high importance on using seasonal ingredients, Pete takes pride in ensuring that each time that specific ingredient makes an appearance on our menu during the season, it’s treated differently each time—different spices and cooking methods—so that you’re not bored and everything tastes different each week!
Pete’s Paleo has direct relationships with our farms and ranches. We believe it’s important to know who is responsible for providing the food that we cook for each of you. We are cooking produce that was harvested out of the ground that day (sometimes the day before). Produce at the pinnacle of freshness means more nutrients for you!
Because we are shipping food fresh (not frozen), we have to make sure that each shipment gets delivered to our customers within 1-2 days. To ensure maximum freshness, we use frozen gel packs and insulated liners to protect the food which adds extra weight to the shipments and an extra expense for the materials. We’ve worked hard to get our customers the best shipping rates possible, given our transit time and packaging requirements. We don’t mark up our shipping rates so the rate that you see is the most discounted rate we can offer. We feel that the value of having someone else doing all the grocery shopping, food preparation, and cooking for you is priceless and we hope you feel the same.
Your meals can stay fresh in the refrigerator for up to a week and can be put in the freezer for up to two months. All of our food is cooked completely free of additives and preservatives and we know you’ll taste the difference.
The food is already cooked; you are just warming it up. Every item varies slightly. Generally, however, you remove the food from the bags and either microwave for 1–2 minutes or sauté in a pan for 5–6 minutes (this is our preferred method).
We place the food in BPA-free plastic bags and vacuum-seal it for maximum freshness.
The Family Plan consists of 5 meals, with each meal consisting of 4 servings. It’s ideal for customers who are looking to order enough food to feed 4 people at once. Meals are not packaged individually, so it’s best for sharing and eating together “family style”.
Below is a side-by-side comparison of the Family Plan next to one of our individually packaged plans (5 meal, 10 meal, or 14 meal).
Whether you’re looking to feed yourself or your entire family, we’ve got you covered. Check out our handy chart below to determine which plan works best for you:
If you are very active or require more food, check out our larger portion size options.
If you are looking for a plan that provides lunch and dinner for 2 people, we recommend that you order two 10 meal plans or two 14 meal plans. (Note: If ordering 2 meal plans for nationwide shipping, please place 2 separate orders.)
All of our produce comes from Suzie’s farm, a local all organic farm. Any substitutions from this will be supplemented with other local, organic ingredients. The protein comes from some of the best suppliers in Southern California or other nearby ranches. All the meat is natural, grass fed and pastured (where appropriate) and sustainably raised. It is Pete’s Paleo firm belief that you are what you eat and we will always strive to guarantee you are eating delicious, healthy food. Please see our suppliers page for more information.
All of our meals are free of gluten, dairy, soy, corn, eggs, legumes, preservatives, GMOs, artificial sweeteners, and natural sweeteners (e.g. honey & maple syrup).
Most of our snacks contain nuts, so if you have a nut allergy, we recommend that you don’t order the snacks. Rarely do we include nuts in our meals, but when we do, we include it in the menu description.
We currently do not offer a complete Pete’s Paleo menu that’s compliant with the Autoimmune Protocol. Some of our meals include tomatoes and peppers and the spices we use include chili, paprika, other nightshades, and herbs from seeds like mustard and cumin. With that said, our meals are not recommended for someone who is very strictly following the AIP diet.
However, our line of meals made for the WAHLS PALEO PROTOCOL™ are completely AIP compliant!
We cook with avocado oil, animal fat, coconut oil, and olive oil (below the smoke point). We do NOT cook with butter or ghee.
Every order that is in by Monday at midnight PST can be picked up at your dropoff location on that same Thursday or will be shipped from our kitchen on Wednesday (1-2 day delivery time based on location). Every order that comes in after Monday at midnight PST will go into next week’s order and be next week’s menu.
The only options for substitutions are no pork and no duck. If you choose no pork/duck, we will just double up on some of the other proteins from that week’s menu. Pete’s Paleo feels it is crucial to your health that you are eating a varied, seasonal menu. That’s what our menus are based and designed around. Don’t be afraid to try new things and find out how delicious they are!
The bacon will last for about 2 weeks in the refrigerator (if you can make it last that long!) and up to 2 months in the freezer.
Nope! Our bacon has been cured and smoked and we don’t add any sugar to it—only delicious spices and salt. It doesn’t contain nitrates, nitrites, nightshades, garlic, or onions either.
Broth is considered to be both a food and a medicine! It’s known to heal the skin, gut, GI tract, aid in digestion or help you beat that cold you’ve been suffering from. Because broth is an extract of connective tissue, it is great for ailments affecting, joints, bones, lungs, muscle and blood. Incorporating bone broth into your established eating patterns can yield tremendous medicinal effects. A cup a day keeps the doctor away!
“Stock contains minerals in a form the body can absorb easily—not just calcium but also magnesium, phosphorus, silicon, sulphur and trace minerals. It contains the broken down material from cartilage and tendons–stuff like chondroitin sulphates and glucosamine, now sold as expensive supplements for arthritis and joint pain.” Sally Fallon, westonaprice.org
Glad you asked! We love this question. The answer is simple, priorities. The bulk of our energy goes into sourcing every ingredient that goes into our broth. We pride ourselves on using bones from animals that were humanely raised on open pastures with clean diets free of antibiotics, hormones and grains. We prioritize this above all else because what goes into the animals body goes into our body. We only use organic vegetables and herbs and our water is filtered, ensuring the final product is as pure and flavorful as it is packed full of vitamins, minerals and gelatin. You can rest assured knowing that our broths are free of gluten, dairy, soy, salt, preservatives, MSG, added flavorings and added colorings. *All of our products are made in a kitchen free of: gluten, dairy and soy.
We firmly believe this to be the most important question to ask when considering what to put in your body. We believe in complete transparency because you shouldn’t have to wonder where your food comes from. We source as many of our bones from ranches located here in Southern California and when needed, supplement through other quality purveyors. We use only bones from pasture-raised animals and only organic vegetables, herbs and vinegar products.

Thanks a bunch for thinking of us; we LOVE it when people help us spread the word. We get a TON of requests for free samples for review, so please include some really good reasons why we should send samples out to you. Those reasons should be as close as possible to this format :
“I have had this blog for xx years/months, and I currently get xxxxx visitors per month who are really focused on Paleo. I have reviewed products similar to yours and had a click through rate of xx and the conversion rate was xx. I’ve attached a screenshot of Google (or some other reputable) Analytics showing my last month’s traffic and I’ve also attached another Google Analytics screenshot with the click through rate for a review post I did on another company’s products.
Go ahead and include anything else you think might be helpful in helping us make a decision to send out samples to you. We’ve built some really great relationships with people who have sampled and reviewed our stuff, and we look forward to building another one with you!
